\"VOX<\/a>VOX Artist Series presents\u00a0“<\/strong>Poetry and Prison:\u00a0 an Evening with Judith Tannenbaum” on April 15th, 2014<\/b> <\/strong>at the \u00a0Powerhouse Arts Center in downtown\u00a0Oxford, Mississippi.\u00a0Doors open at 6pm and the\u00a0event starts at 7pm. Musical guest will be the Oxford based\u00a0Mayflower of Death<\/strong>.\u00a0 There is no cover for admission.\u00a0 Food and drink will be available for a small donation.<\/span><\/p>\n

This event is presented by VOX Press to bring about awareness of its Prison Writes Initiative<\/strong>, a creative writing program designed\u00a0especially for Mississippi prison inmates.\u00a0 Judith Tannenbaum is an expert on teaching creative writing\u00a0in maximum security prisons.\u00a0 Her book Disguised as a Poem<\/em> is a highly acclaimed memoir about her experience teaching poetry writing at San Quentin prison during the 1980s.\u00a0\u00a0Crowd discussion with the author is highly encouraged
