The Lafayette County Master Gardeners<\/strong> are pleased to welcome the public to their Annual Spring Lecture Series<\/strong> which will be held in the Dotsy A. Fitts Auditorium<\/strong> of the Public Library<\/strong> at 401 Bramlett Boulevard.<\/strong> Parking is available at the library or across the street at the Oxford Skate Park<\/strong>. The first speaker will be Dr. Jason Hoeksema<\/strong>, Professor of Biology at the University of Mississippi<\/strong>, who will provide a lecture on \u201cMushrooms and Other Fungi\u201d<\/strong> on Thursday,<\/strong> March 9 at noon<\/strong>. This talk will be beneficial for anyone interested in identifying mushrooms or growing them at home. The Lafayette County Master Gardener Association (LCMGA) <\/strong>is sponsored and directed by Mississippi State University Extension.<\/strong> Through this program, individuals receive forty hours of on-line training on a wide variety of gardening and landscape topics. After completing the training, members provide 20 hours of volunteer service and obtain 12 hours of educational training annually to maintain their certification. The Master Gardener Volunteer program is a great way to gain gardening expertise at a low cost, meet other enthusiastic gardeners, share gardening experiences, reach out to the community, and promote research based gardening.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cooler months are the perfect time for garden planning. If you need suggestions for your ornamental or vegetable gardening, a team of Master Gardeners will come to your property and assist you by answering questions and suggesting plant material. Following the consultation, you will receive a written report from you LCMGA Team.\u00a0 There is no charge to the property owner for this service. Master Gardeners can be reached by leaving a message at the MSU Extension Office 662-234-4451. A home consultant specialist will contact you to schedule a visit or answer questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
