The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour <\/strong>will welcome former Saturday Night Live<\/strong><\/em> screenwriter David Sheffield <\/strong>this Thursday, March 2<\/strong>, at 6 pm at The Lyric Theatre<\/strong>. Admission is free and the public is invited.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other guests will include Alabama<\/strong> country singer Jon Byrd <\/strong>and Delta bluesman Sean \u201cBad\u201d Apple<\/strong>. Hosts of the show are Jim Dees<\/strong> and house band, The Yalobushwhackers<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program will be broadcast locally on WUMS 92.1 FM and online: https:\/\/onlineradiobox.com\/us\/wums\/.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday\u2019s show will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Oxford Film Festival<\/strong>, which runs from Wednesday, March 1 through Sunday, March 5. (No film pass is required for the Thacker show).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Screenwriter David Sheffield is a Biloxi, Mississippi<\/strong>, native, who was living in Ocean Springs, Mississippi<\/strong>, in 1980 when he was hired (after a series of improbable long-shots) to write for Saturday Night Live.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There, he co-wrote classic sketches for a young Eddie Murphy<\/strong> that led to a 40-year association with Murphy and co-writer Barry Blaustein<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheffield\u2019s screen credits include several Murphy vehicles including the 2021 Netflix hit, Coming 2 America<\/em> <\/strong>as well as the 1988 original, Coming to America<\/strong><\/em>, and Murphy\u2019s The Nutty Professor<\/em> <\/strong>and The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheffield\u2019s most recent project is a play he wrote and produced, The Heartbreak Henry<\/strong><\/em>, based on his hilarious experiences managing the old Henry Hotel in Oxford in 1967 when he was just 19-years-old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 25-minute documentary about the making of the play, The Heartbreak Henry: The Show Must Go On<\/strong><\/em>, will screen Friday, March 3 at 3:45 pm at Malco Commons<\/strong> during the Oxford Film Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Country twangster Jon Byrd<\/strong>, from Birmingham Alabama<\/strong>, will also be featured on Thursday\u2019s show. Byrd quickly made a name for himself in Nashville with his 2007 album, Byrd\u2019s Auto Parts<\/em>. Mojo Magazine<\/em> <\/strong>proclaimed the album is, \u201cAmericana the way it was and the way it should be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bluesman Sean \u201cBad\u201d Apple <\/strong>has been a longtime mainstay in the Clarksdale, Mississippi<\/strong>, blues scene. He recently became a club owner when he converted the old Club 2000 <\/strong>on Issaquena Avenue in Clarksdale into the Bad Apple Blues Club<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour returns to the Powerhouse Arts Center on Thursday, March 9. The show will be off for spring break on Thursday, March 16. The show resumes on Thursday, March 23 and runs every Thursday through April 27. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
