The season premiere will feature author <strong>De\u2019Shawn Charles Winslow<\/strong>, winner of the Willie Morris Award for Southern fiction, plus songwriters <strong>Rod Smoth<\/strong> and <strong>Amara Nicole<\/strong>. Admission is free and the public is invited.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The show is hosted by <strong>Jim Dees<\/strong>, and the season opener will feature the <strong>Yalobushwhacker Big Band<\/strong> with the <strong>Thacker Horns<\/strong> and guest vocalist, <strong>Mary Frances Massey<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Amara-Nicole-edit.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Amara-Nicole-edit.jpg?resize=264%2C276\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-126146\" width=\"264\" height=\"276\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Amara Nicole<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>All Thursday broadcasts can be heard locally at <strong>WUMS, 92.1 FM<\/strong> in Oxford or online: <a href=\"https:\/\/onlineradiobox.com\/us\/wums\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/onlineradiobox.com\/us\/wums\/<\/a>. Other highlights include a rooftop show (weather permitting) at the <strong>Graduate Hotel<\/strong> (February 23) and the <strong>Oxford Film Festival <\/strong>show at <strong>The Lyric<\/strong> with <strong><em>Saturday Night Live<\/em> <\/strong>screenwriter, <strong>David Sheffield<\/strong> (March 2).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The show will perform live on Saturday, March 4 at 3 pm in Cleveland, Miss. on the campus of <strong>Delta State University<\/strong> to celebrate the <strong>Duff Dorrough Scholarship Fund<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Oxford Book Conference<\/strong> show with drummer-turned-author <strong>Nic Brown <\/strong>and songwriter <strong>Charlie Parr <\/strong>at the Lyric is set for March 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other dates of note include author <strong>Jeannette Walls<\/strong> (April 6); <strong><em>Cold Mountain<\/em> <\/strong>author, <strong>Charles Frazier<\/strong>, with his new novel, <em><strong>The Trackers<\/strong><\/em> (April 13); and the season finale on Thursday, April 27 at the Lyric with Mississippi gospel groovers,<strong> The Staples Jr. Singers<\/strong>. We have good ole Webb Wilder on April 20 and New Orleans rapper Alfred Banks will join the Staples Jr. Singers on the April 27 show.
