The pumpkins have been pied, and The Oxford Square <\/strong>is festooned with lights. Ready or not, the holidays are here, and Oxford Civic Chorus<\/strong> has a few musical events planned to get you in the spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 3 pm on Sunday, December 4<\/strong> at David H. Nutt Auditorium<\/strong>, \u201cWintertide Awakes\u201d<\/strong> conjures the magic of falling snow and the miracles of Christmas. The concert includes traditional carols from Spain, Ireland, Austria, and Wales, with a mix of Mendelssohn, Whitacre, Forrest and others, plus a version of the French \u201cBring a Torch,\u201d arranged by co-director Creighton Holder<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a joy to arrange \u2018Bring a Torch\u2019 for this ensemble,\u201d Holder said. \u201cI wanted to create a lyrical lullaby around the beautiful melody that has traditionally been set as a dance. The work is dedicated to my colleague, Debra Atkinson, with appreciation for her artistry and commitment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oxford Civic Chorus relies on donations to fund its operations. The choir donated 100% of the proceeds from its spring concert to Ukrainian relief, so this concert is an important fundraiser for the organization. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choristers also visit the Mississippi State Veterans Home<\/strong> in Oxford in December to spread some Christmas caroling cheer to residents.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OCC\u2019s spring concert will be a benefit for Memory Makers<\/a><\/strong>, a respite day program for people with dementia and their caregivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oxford Civic Chorus welcomes new members. Anyone interested in joining may simply come to the first rehearsal of the spring season, 7 pm Monday January 23 at Oxford-University United Methodist Church<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oxford Civic Chorus, a 501(c)(3), has been inspiring singers, enriching community and expanding musical horizons since 1998. The choir gathers for weekly rehearsals, performs two concerts a year, and is available to sing at local events.
