{"id":124322,"date":"2022-11-08T17:08:21","date_gmt":"2022-11-08T23:08:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=124322"},"modified":"2022-11-09T23:36:08","modified_gmt":"2022-11-10T05:36:08","slug":"sarahfest-artist-in-residence-2022-valerie-george","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/sarahfest-artist-in-residence-2022-valerie-george\/","title":{"rendered":"Sarahfest Artist in Residence 2022: Valerie George"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Sarah Isom Center for Women and Gender Studies <\/strong>and the <strong>Department of Music<\/strong> announces <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sarahfest.rocks\/genre\/arts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Valerie George<\/strong> as their second annual Artist in Residence as part of Sarahfest 2022<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s residency is focusing on <strong>\u201cThe Art of Process in Creating.\u201d<\/strong> It will allow students to participate in a unique opportunity to encounter new methods and on modes of production through engaging with visual art, sound, experimentation, and acts of collaboration in a truly integrated way.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A mixture of six undergraduate and graduate students have been selected to work with Valerie during the residency: <strong>Lauren Ladner<\/strong>, <strong>If-not-God then Moses<\/strong>, <strong>Autumn Payneat<\/strong>, <strong>Maggie Muehleman<\/strong>, <strong>Kaitlyn Steinroeder<\/strong>, and <strong>Izzy Arthurs. <\/strong>After a week with Valerie, these students will present on<strong> Sunday, November 13, 2022<\/strong>, at 6 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to welcome Valerie George to our campus and to have her work with this year\u2019s talented cohort of University of Mississippi students,\u201d states <strong>Theresa Starkey<\/strong>, acting director of the Sarah Isom Center. \u201cHer broad body of work and ability to conceptualize engaging exhibits is sure to inspire students. George draws upon the art forms of sound, sculpture, video, performance art, and new media to explore the world around her and issues that interest her such as gender and the body.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George will conduct a public presentation on November 6, 2022, to kick off her residency.
