2022 Mississippi Songwriter of the Year<\/strong>, Zechariah Lloyd<\/strong> was raised on cornbread and Jesus<\/strong> in the southern Mississippi Delta by a church pianist and rock \u2018n\u2019 roll drummer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zech began playing drums at a young age on his father\u2019s drumset, cutting his teeth on his Uncle\u2019s Zeppelin<\/strong> and Skynyrd<\/strong> records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zechariah started making headway as an artist in 2015 when he won the Vicksburg Blues Society\u2019s Blues Challenge<\/strong> and went on to represent Vicksburg<\/strong> in the International Blues Challenge<\/strong> in Memphis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His sound has deep roots in blues, country, and soul, evident in songs like \u201cDown to the River,\u201d  his 2020 single that won first place in blues for the Unsigned Only Competition<\/strong> and the International Songwriting Competition<\/strong>, beating out over 27,000 other contestants. Zech placed second in the 2021 International Songwriting Competition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2017, Zech met up with local musicians to start a full band, Southern Groove Redemption<\/strong>, who were voted Oxford\u2019s Favorite Local Band<\/strong> in the The Local Voice<\/em><\/strong>\u2019s Local Favorites Awards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
