The first major exhibition curated by the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi team, <em>MTV Turns Forty\u00a0<\/em>explores the history of the iconic music television network\u2014from the role native Mississippian, <strong>Bob Pittman<\/strong>,\u00a0played in the concept and execution of an idea that revolutionized the music industry, to why, nearly four decades later, people across the world still scream, \u201cI want my MTV!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited to hear that the Grammy Museum in Cleveland is extending the MTV exhibit until the end of the\u00a0year,&#8221; said <strong>Alan Hunter<\/strong>, who was one of the five original MTV VJs. &#8220;As much as I really want my stuff back, like my Moon Man award and my Michael Jackson &#8216;Beat It&#8217; jacket, I\u2019m glad to sacrifice so that people who haven\u2019t been able to make it down to this fantastic museum in the heart of the Delta, can finally make the trip.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/external.ftup1-1.fna.fbcdn.net\/emg1\/v\/t13\/14531776512560615300?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.supertalk.fm%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2022%2F06%2FGrammyMuseum.MTVevent2021-copy.webp&amp;fb_obo=1&amp;utld=supertalk.fm&amp;stp=c0.5000x0.5000f_dst-jpg_flffffff_p500x261_q75&amp;ccb=13-1&amp;oh=00_AT8bHj1ozc_SbJY2PoQgBZ6Yk4-g-66rjEWBLZHcig0RKQ&amp;oe=62EC4B37&amp;_nc_sid=c504da\" alt=\"\" width=\"838\" height=\"438\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWish you were around when the M in MTV meant music? GRAMMY Museum Mississippi has you covered with their ultimate immersive MTV experience,\u201d said <strong>Martha Quinn<\/strong>, who was one of the five original MTV VJs.\u00a0\u201cYou\u2019ll learn when it comes to MTV memorabilia like interviews and artifacts from MTV\u2019s five original VJs\u2014too much is never enough.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m delighted that the exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of MTV has been such a huge hit in my home state of Mississippi that they\u2019ve decided to keep it there a little longer,&#8221; said Bob Pittman, Chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia, Inc., who led the team that created and launched MTV in 1981. \u201cNow more visitors, from the state of Mississippi and beyond, will be able to experience this anniversary celebration and learn about the launch of MTV and its ties to Mississippi.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;People from all over the country have traveled to Cleveland to see this special exhibit spotlighting the 40th\u00a0anniversary of MTV, the idea of which was developed by our dear late friend, and first Chair of the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi Board, Lucy Janoush,&#8221; said <strong>Emily Havens<\/strong>, Executive Director of GRAMMY Museum Mississippi. &#8220;We are thrilled to be able to keep it open longer so that more visitors have the chance to experience the exhibit and learn about how Mississippi is part of MTV&#8217;s history.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>MTV Turns Forty: I Still Want My MTV <\/em>will be open to the public through the end of 2022. For the exhibit, the Mississippi Museum captured interviews with and artifacts from the four remaining original MTV VJs: <strong>Nina Blackwood<\/strong>, <strong>Mark Goodman<\/strong>, <strong>Alan Hunter<\/strong>, and <strong>Martha Quinn<\/strong>. The fifth original MTV VJ, <strong>J.J. Jackson<\/strong>,\u00a0passed away in 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ten items in the exhibit are provided by <strong>Hard Rock International<\/strong>, including items from artists such as\u00a0 <strong>Madonna<\/strong>, <strong>Michael Jackson<\/strong>, <strong>Duran Duran<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Simon Le Bon<\/strong>, <strong>Dire Straits<\/strong>, <strong>Bret Michaels<\/strong>, and more. Hard\u00a0 Rock owns the largest and most valuable collection of authentic music memorabilia. Spanning nearly 50 years, the brand\u2019s collection has grown to over 86,000 pieces.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, <em>MTV Turns Forty <\/em>features artifacts from <strong>Aerosmith<\/strong>, <strong>Run-DMC<\/strong>, the MTV Video Music Awards, <strong>Bob Pittman<\/strong>, <strong>John Sykes<\/strong>, <strong>Lucy Janoush<\/strong>, and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>MTV Turns Forty <\/em>is sponsored in part by the <strong>Maddox Foundation<\/strong>.
