The Oxford Police Department<\/strong> announces the newest four-legged member of the police department, K9<\/strong>\u00a0 Jocko<\/strong>. Jocko is a one-year-old black Labrador Retriever<\/strong> from Little Rock K9 Academy<\/strong> in Little Rock, Arkansas<\/strong>.\u00a0 He received several months of training from Little Rock K9 Academy before he and his handler, K9 Officer\u00a0Brandon Byrd<\/strong>, spent two weeks of K9 handler training together. Jocko is trained in narcotics detection,\u00a0tracking, and article searches.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jocko comes at no cost to the tax payers of Oxford<\/strong>. Businessman, Johnny Morgan<\/strong>, donated the money to the Oxford Police Department to be used towards a special project. Chief Jeff McCutchen<\/strong>\u00a0ultimately went with a new K9 for the department. Along with purchasing the canine, the donation also covered the cost of a new Dodge Durango<\/strong>, all the equipment inside the K9 patrol vehicle, the training costs\u00a0associated in getting the handler trained, a DJI drone, and a handheld thermography camera.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMr. Morgan went above and beyond for the Oxford Police Department,\u201d said Chief McCutchen. \u201cHis  generosity will help with the mission of OPD for years to come. We thank Mr. Morgan for his support of  law enforcement and commitment to help us keep Oxford safe.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The community will be able to meet Jocko at upcoming community events and demonstrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
