The Oxford Police Department<\/strong> is excited to announce the next step in our bar safety partnership with \u00a0the Associated Student Body<\/strong> at Ole Miss<\/strong>. One concern people have when drinking in public is about somebody tampering \u00a0with their drinks. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Oxford Police Department and ASB looked into different safety precautions being taken around the \u00a0country and found one we determined to be particularly effective. OPD and ASB will provide drink coasters \u00a0having two tests designed to detect Gamma Hydroxybutyrate<\/strong> (GHB) and and Ketamine<\/strong>, two of the most common chemicals found in spiked drinks. The test provides instructions on how to conduct the test and what\u00a0to do if the test comes back positive. The coasters also provide the telephone numbers of the Oxford Police Department and the Victim Coordinator<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These tests will be distributed in multiple ways throughout Oxford <\/strong>and on the University of Mississippi<\/strong> \u00a0Oxford campus. The Oxford Police Department will distribute them to businesses in the downtown district,\u00a0have the coasters available at the OPD Safe Site<\/strong> tent located across the street from the 11th Street Alley and Funky\u2019s<\/strong>, and any business that serves alcoholic drinks. The Associated Student Body will distribute these \u00a0coasters on campus.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re so proud of this partnership with ASB,\u201d said Chief Jeff McCutchen<\/strong>. \u201cThis is an exciting next step to \u00a0go along with Safe Ride on campus and future safety precautions that will be put into action going forward. \u00a0Safety for our downtown district patrons, and Oxford as a whole, is our number one priority at the Oxford \u00a0Police Department.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
