{"id":118232,"date":"2022-03-12T13:54:01","date_gmt":"2022-03-12T19:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=118232"},"modified":"2022-03-12T13:54:10","modified_gmt":"2022-03-12T19:54:10","slug":"applications-open-for-gillespie-business-plan-competition-at-ole-miss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/applications-open-for-gillespie-business-plan-competition-at-ole-miss\/","title":{"rendered":"Applications Open for Gillespie Business Plan Competition at Ole Miss"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Participants have opportunity to pitch ideas for cash awards, recognition<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship<\/strong> at the <strong>University of Mississippi<\/strong> is taking applications for its 18th annual <strong>Gillespie Business Plan Competition<\/strong>, set for April 8 at the <strong>Jackson Avenue Center<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To apply for the contest, applicants must submit a brief form with basic information and a one-minute entry video demonstrating the problem they are solving and describing their target audience. The entry deadline is March 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The competition runs from 9 am to 5 pm. Each individual who enters the competition will have an opportunity to pitch an idea, said\u00a0<strong>Tong Meng<\/strong>, the center&#8217;s director of programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We are delighted to host the 18th annual Gillespie Business Plan Competition in person,&#8221; Meng said. &#8220;As always, this competition is open to all current Ole Miss students. Take advantage of this amazing networking and funding opportunity to take your business to the next level.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants compete to win a variety of awards and opportunities for recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The overall winner of the competition will be awarded office space at <strong>Insight Park<\/strong>, as long as admission criteria are met for the incubator, along with a check for $10,000 to the incorporated company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second-place winner will receive a check for $5,000, distributed to the incorporated company. Four runners-up also will be recognized with $1,000 deposited into their bursar accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other opportunities for recognition include the <strong>Thomas W. Colbert-Community Bank Innovation Award<\/strong>, which includes a check for $5,000; the <strong>Lynn and Ron Samuels Student Entrepreneur Award<\/strong>, worth $5,000; and the <strong>Stephen E. Rowell Entrepreneur Award<\/strong>, $5,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Past winners include <strong>Froomie<\/strong>, an all-in-one platform that provides housing solutions for college students and parents at their specific university, developed by <strong>Brea Givens<\/strong>, and <strong>Dais Notes<\/strong>, a grouping platform that allows students to interact with other students in note sharing and other tutoring efforts, developed by <strong>Nicholas Neilson-Slabach<\/strong> and <strong>Kyle Herbert<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tristan Daily, Noah McKone, Jake Smith<\/strong>, and <strong>Owen Barry<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Rolling Thunder<\/strong> were recipients of the 2021 Thomas W. Colbert-Community Bank Innovators award.
