OPD and <strong>Chief McCutchen<\/strong> would especially like \u00a0to congratulate K9 Officer <strong>Brandon Byrd<\/strong> for winning Officer of the Year for 2021. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOfficer Byrd is an extremely deserving winner. He\u2019s incredibly hard-working and is as dependable\u00a0as they come. We\u2019re very proud of Officer Byrd and how he serves our great community,\u201d said Chief Jeff McCutchen. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officer Byrd is the 25th winner of the <strong>R.L. \u201cBob\u201d Jones Memorial Officer of the Year Award<\/strong> winner. The inaugural award was given out in 1997 to, now <strong>Lafayette County Sheriff<\/strong>, <strong>Joey East<\/strong>. Officer Byrd\u00a0was nominated by two time Officer of the Year Award winner Lieutenant <strong>Kevin Parker<\/strong>, who won the\u00a0award in 2013 and 2018. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m humbled and honored to have been chosen as the 2021 Officer of the Year, but by no means do I \u00a0feel that I deserve this award more than any other officer at the Oxford Police Department. I&#8217;ve simply \u00a0been blessed to work for a great administration, who I know to support me, and learned from great \u00a0supervisors,\u201d stated Officer Byrd. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlso, I&#8217;ve been lucky to be a part of a shift and the SWAT team that expects a higher standard and \u00a0holds me accountable. Any achievements I&#8217;ve had are a direct reflection of them.
