Burnside for nearly 30 years following his apprenticeship with his neighbor, Joe Callicott, in Nesbit, MS. Brown has since forged a successful solo career, taking his north Mississippi hill country blues sound all over the world. His albums include&nbsp;<em>Stingray<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Meet Ya in the Bottom<\/em>, and&nbsp;<em>Goin\u2019 Back to Mississippi<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fall 2021, Brown appeared on&nbsp;<em>Delta Kream<\/em>, a bestselling album by The Black Keys and toured the South with the band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each June, Brown plays host to two dozen blues acts at the annual&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/nmshillcountrypicnic.com\/?fbclid=IwAR1R9lcfqo80CgHBOn3XAe3wdCyrQeElBZtkSgOTHs7JppMzHhDJpyN6K-k\">North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic<\/a>. The veteran musician was recently honored by the Hill Country Blues Hall of Fame with the unveiling of his sculpted hands playing a guitar by noted Como, MS sculptor Sharon McConnell-Dickerson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"300\" width=\"300\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thackermountain.com\/wp\/assets\/Cary-Hudson-2-1-300x300.jpg?resize=300%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cary Hudson<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Cary Hudson is a singer-songwriter, former Oxford resident and front man for the beloved rock band, Blue Mountain. His solo albums include his latest,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/caryhudson.bandcamp.com\/releases\">Hobolochitto<\/a>,&nbsp;<em>Town and Country<\/em>&nbsp;(Daddy Rabbit Records) and&nbsp;<em>Christmas in Mississippi<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was chosen as one of the Top Ten Alternative Country Guitar Players by&nbsp;<em>Gibson<\/em>&nbsp;magazine and continues to tour and write songs in a career spanning 30 years. Hudson lives in New Orleans and hopes to someday, \u201cwhistle like Professor Longhair.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Author<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jianqing (John) Zheng<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Jianqing (John) Zheng is an author and editor. His book,&nbsp;<em>A Way of Looking<\/em>&nbsp;(Silverfish Review Press, 2021), won the Gerald Cable Book Prize. His forthcoming collection is&nbsp;<em>The Dog Ears of Reeducation<\/em>, a collection of poems reimagining his experience during the Cultural Revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"300\" width=\"255\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thackermountain.com\/wp\/assets\/Jianqing-John-Zheng-edit-255x300.jpg?resize=255%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cZheng\u2019s form\u2014half prose, half verse\u2014is the sort of thing that might easily go wrong, but he uses it to give two succinct views of each moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>A Way of Looking<\/em>&nbsp;is a heartfelt account of exile and homecoming. It is a significant addition to the Asian-American literature of immigration.\u201d\u2014Dana Gioia<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zheng is the editor of several volumes of the\u201cConversations\u201d series for the University Press of Mississippi, a collection of interviews with writers. Also of note is his scholarly work on the largely unknown haiku of late author Richard Wright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Much of Zheng\u2019s academic work focuses on Southern writers and particularly chronicles life in the Mississippi Delta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1996, Zheng has been on the faculty of Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, MS where he is currently chairman of the Department of English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Valley State, he edits V<em>alley Voices: A Literary Review,\u00a0<\/em>a biannual journal of prose, poetry, interviews, criticism, and reviews from writers and scholars from the Mississippi Delta and elsewhere.
