Gabby Rivera <\/strong>wants to inspire a generation of diverse voices and queer and Latinx youth to share their stories with the world. She is bringing her talk, “Inspiring Radical Creativity,” to the University of Mississippi<\/strong> to celebrate Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month<\/strong> and LGBTQ+ History Month<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The in-person event hosted by the Center for Inclusion and Cross Cultural Engagement<\/strong> is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday September 27, 2021 in the auditorium of the Gertrude C. Ford Ole Miss Student Union<\/strong>, Room 124.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The overlap of Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month and LGBTQ+ History Month is unique and this provided an opportunity to bring in a speaker who could talk about identity and intersectionality,” said Sarah Pi\u00f1on<\/strong>, UM assistant director for cross cultural engagement programming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Gabby Rivera intentionally speaks on her identities at the intersection \u2013 being queer and Latinx are rooted in her and in her work. We hope her keynote lecture allows students and staff to see their identities represented on our campus and to spark further conversation about identity at University of Mississippi.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The critically acclaimed author of “Juliet Takes a Breath” is also the author of “America,”the first Marvel Comics title to center a queer Latinx character in the publisher’s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday’s event is just one of the many inclusive and intersectional events featured on the Center for Inclusion and Cross Cultural Engagement’s All In All Year calendar<\/a>. The calendar is a collection of events aimed at fostering conversations about intersectionality across departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
