The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour<\/strong>, Oxford<\/strong>\u2019s weekly music and literature program that has broadcast studio shows without an audience for the past pandemic year, will kick off its fall 2021 season Thursday, September 9 <\/strong>at 6 pm with a live show\u2014audience included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The performance will be held at the Old Armory Pavilion<\/strong> on the corner of Bramlett Boulevard<\/strong> and University Avenue<\/strong>. (Commonly known as the Farmer\u2019s Market location). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health protocols will be in place including spaced seating and masks when needed. Lawn chairs and picnics are encouraged. Admission is free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests for the first show will include author Heather Cass White<\/strong> and her book celebrating books: Books Promiscuously Read: Reading as a Way of Life<\/strong><\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musical guests will include bluesman Mark \u201cMuleman\u201d Massey<\/strong> with Billy Earheart<\/strong>, former keyboardist for the Amazing Rhythm Aces<\/strong>, and world boogie group, Afrissippi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show is hosted by Jim Dees<\/strong> and The Yalobushwhacker Big Band<\/strong> featuring Mary Frances Massey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pending broadcast conditions, the show will air locally on WUMS, 92.1 FM and statewide and regionally the following week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thacker producer Kathryn McGaw York,<\/strong> back for her second tour as producer of the show, says with the ever-changing Covid situation, the show will proceed accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe know it\u2019s important to make our shows a community event,\u201d York notes. \u201cWe\u2019re committed to perform our September shows at the Pavilion and at the Lyric so people can spread out. We\u2019ll see how it goes. Everyone\u2019s safety is foremost.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests for upcoming shows this fall include Mississippi River historian\/storyteller Macon Fry<\/strong>; acclaimed Chicago vocalist Kelly Hogan<\/strong>; B.B. King <\/strong>biographer, Daniel de Vise<\/strong>; Korean violinist Jiwon Lee<\/strong> and Mississippi songwriters Cary Hudson<\/strong>, Jimbo Mathus<\/strong>, and Kaleb Garrett<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday\u2019s show features Afrissippi, a group with ties to the Oxford area, including guitarists Guelel Kumba<\/strong> and Eric Deaton<\/strong> and drummer, Kinney Kimbrough<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Afrisippi\u2019s drummer, Kinney Kimbrough, son of the late Junior Kimbrough<\/strong>, brings the group\u2019s other-worldly grooves full circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis will be a homecoming for Afrissippi and for all of us too, really,\u201d host Dees says. \u201cWe look forward to seeing everybody\u2014even if it\u2019s from six feet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
