Blues musician Cedric Burnside <\/strong>will be stopping by the End of All Music<\/strong> record store in Oxford, Mississippi<\/strong> on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 <\/strong>at 5 pm<\/strong> to sign copies of his new record,\u00a0I Be Trying,\u00a0<\/em>and play a few songs. The event is free and open to the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I Be Trying<\/em>\u00a0might be the title of the new record from\u00a0two-time\u00a0GRAMMY nominee Cedric Burnside<\/strong>, but it\u2019s also a mission statement in an era when plenty of us have discovered what \u201cthe blues\u201d really means. Recorded over three days at\u00a0Royal Studios <\/strong>in Memphis <\/strong>(the home studio of Al Green <\/strong>and Hi Records<\/strong> in the 60s and 70s), this album is the ultimate statement of purpose for a critically acclaimed artist who has proudly carried the mantle of\u00a0Mississippi Hill Country blues<\/strong>\u00a0around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over thirteen tracks, Burnside delivers his bruised but unfettered truth over blistering guitar and deep pocket drums\u2014a sound birthed in his soul but developed and perfected on the road. But no matter how far he travels, the righteous sound he makes could only come from one place.\u00a0I Be Trying<\/em>\u00a0is the sound of modern Mississippi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produced by second-generation Memphis soul trailblazer\u00a0Boo Mitchell <\/strong>(\u201cUptown Funk\u201d)\u00a0and featuring guest appearances from\u00a0Luther Dickinson <\/strong>(North Mississippi Allstars) and Zac Cockrell<\/strong> (Brittany Howard),\u00a0I Be Trying<\/em>\u00a0takes the sound that Burnside learned from his grandfather, blues legend\u00a0R.L. Burnside<\/strong>, and reinterprets it into a modern, bold Black American sound that expands the sonic landscape while respecting and honoring its roots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
