With summer officially started, outdoor events will provide a much-needed opportunity to get back to the activities Oxford knows and loves. In-person readings at Square Books<\/strong> have been particularly missed, and on Monday, July 12<\/strong> at 6 pm<\/strong>, the Old Armory Pavilion<\/strong> will host a celebration of the release of Ace Atkins<\/strong>\u2019s latest installment in the Quinn Colson series, The Heathens<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Per Square Books tradition, he\u2019ll be joined in conversation by Jack Pendarvis<\/strong>, and, to make it a real party, there will be live music by Tate Moore<\/strong>, hot catfish from Taylor Grocery Special Events Catering<\/strong>, and craft cocktails by The Hospitality Bruhs<\/strong>. Pretty much everything you need to enjoy an evening of literature, food, and music will be provided, but please BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair). Social distancing will be required.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ace Atkins<\/a><\/strong> is the author of twenty-eight books, including eleven Quinn Colson novels, the first two of which, The Ranger<\/em><\/strong> and The Lost Ones<\/em><\/strong>, were nominated for the Edgar Award for Best Novel (he has a third Edgar nomination for his short story \u201cLast Fair Deal Gone Down\u201d). He is the author of nine New York Times-bestselling novels in the continuation of Robert B. Parker\u2019s Spenser series. Before turning to fiction, he was a correspondent for the St. Petersburg Times<\/em> and a crime reporter for the Tampa Tribune<\/em>, and he played defensive end for Auburn University<\/strong> football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jack Pendarvis<\/strong> is the author of four books of fiction and one of nonfiction. A former columnist for both the Oxford American<\/em> and the Believer<\/em>, he is a writer and story editor for the Peabody Award\u2013winning television show Adventure Time<\/em><\/strong>. He lives in Oxford, around the corner from Ace Atkins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In The Heathens <\/em>Sheriff Quinn Colson and his former deputy Lillie Virgil find themselves on opposite sides of a case for the first time after a woman is found dead and three delinquent teens go on the run.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before he was an Army Ranger who came home to become Tibbehah County Sheriff and take down a corrupt system, Quinn Colson was a kid who got into trouble–a lot of it.
