While there are no pandemic related restrictions on group gathering, most traditional local Independence Day<\/strong> events will not be taking place this year. In fact, the only public Fourth of July<\/strong> event is the City of Oxford<\/strong>‘s fireworks display on Sunday, July 4, 2021<\/strong> at 9 pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fireworks will be launched from the back of Oxford High School<\/strong> on Sisk Avenue<\/strong> and will be visible from parking lots at OHS, Oxford Conference Center<\/strong>, Della Davidson<\/strong>, and other surrounding areas and businesses in the Oxford Commons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local radio station WOXD Bullseye 95.5 FM<\/strong> will be playing traditional patriotic music during the display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pam Swain<\/strong>, vice president of the Oxford-Lafayette Chamber of Commerce<\/strong>, said there were not enough volunteers to offer other events, such as the Children\u2019s Parade<\/strong>, the celebration in The Grove<\/strong>, and the Freedom 5K<\/strong> and Kids\u2019 Fun Run<\/strong> races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn looking forward to the 2022 Fourth of July events, we hope to find some community partners who can help bring back the traditional activities that go along with the fireworks,\u201d Swain remarked. \u201cThe chamber is currently seeking a couple of nonprofits to take over the pre-fireworks community activities and also the early morning 5K race for 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Groups with the manpower to host larger events and wish to take them over should contact the chamber at 662-234-4651<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Closings and Garbage Pickups<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The federal holiday will also be observed on Monday, July 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City of Oxford<\/strong> will not pick up garbage or rubbish on Monday, July 5. Monday\u2019s routes will be collected on Tuesday, and Tuesday\u2019s routes will be collected on Wednesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lafayette County<\/strong> will run regular garbage routes on Monday, July 5. Large items will not be picked up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All city, county, state and federal courts and offices, the U.S. Post Office<\/strong> and banks will be closed on Monday, July 5, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Oxford-University Transit<\/strong> buses will not run on Monday, and parking around The Square <\/strong>and in the city\u2019s parking garage will be free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Oxford-Lafayette County Public Library<\/strong> will be closed Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
