The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour<\/a><\/strong> will perform in The Grove<\/strong>, Sunday, June 27<\/strong> at 6 pm<\/strong> in the show\u2019s first Oxford<\/strong> appearance with an audience since the COVID pandemic began last year. Admission is free and lawn chairs and picnics are welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show is part of the Summer Sunset Series<\/strong> and is sponsored by the Ford Center<\/a><\/strong>, Mississippi Arts Commission<\/a><\/strong>, and the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests will include author Melissa Ginsburg<\/strong> and her literary thriller, The House Uptown<\/strong><\/em>, with musical guests, vocal group Damein Wash & The Venture Fourths<\/strong> and R&B singer Effie Burt<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosts of the show are Jim Dees <\/strong>and Thacker house band, The Yalobushwhackers<\/strong>. In the event of rain, the show will move to the Gertrude C. Ford Center<\/strong> located at 351 University Ave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be no live broadcast. This show will be recorded for air later this summer. The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour can be heard locally every Thursday at 6 pm on WUMS 92.1 FM (or online) and every Saturday at 7 pm on Mississippi Public Broadcasting, on air at 90.3 FM in Oxford, or online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thacker producer Alice Pierotti<\/strong> says the show\u2019s crew looks forward to seeing familiar faces after a year and a half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re grateful we were able to keep the show going through in-studio shows,\u201d she noted, \u201cbut there\u2019s no substitute for an audience. We\u2019re really looking forward to Sunday\u2019s show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since March 2020 the show has relied on phone interviews with authors and pre-recorded musical performances. The Thacker crew expects to resume live shows this fall at Off Square Books <\/strong>and the Lyric Theatre<\/strong>, even if seating is limited.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show has performed live only twice this year, both on the road, in Clarksdale<\/strong> and Meridian<\/strong>. Host Dees says that while those shows came off without any problems, he and the crew are ready to return home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt really is like riding a bicycle,\u201d he says. \u201cYou think maybe you\u2019ve forgotten how until you jump back on and take off. Our band is so tight they haven\u2019t missed a beat\u2014literally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show\u2019s summer schedule includes performances in August at the Mississippi Book Festival <\/strong>in Jackson<\/strong> and at the Walter Anderson Museum<\/strong> in Ocean Springs<\/strong>, Mississippi.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show opens its fall season on Thursday, September 2 at Off Square Books in Oxford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
