{"id":111683,"date":"2021-06-09T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-06-09T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=111683"},"modified":"2023-10-22T22:50:00","modified_gmt":"2023-10-23T03:50:00","slug":"oxford-mississippi-municipal-election-results-june-8-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/oxford-mississippi-municipal-election-results-june-8-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Oxford, Mississippi Municipal Election Results, June 8, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Municipal Election Day <\/strong>June 8, 2021 in <strong>Oxford, Mississippi<\/strong> will be remembered for the heavy rain, but a torrential downpour didn\u2019t stop the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some 2,246 registered locals traversed rain-soaked roads and flash flooding to cast their ballots in Oxford\u2019s municipal election. Another 836 voted by absentee ballot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mayor Robyn Tannehill<\/strong> will serve another term after handily defeating her opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tannehill gathered an astounding 83% of the 3,082 votes cast in Oxford, walloping Independent candidate <strong>Brandon Pettis<\/strong> (319 votes, 11%) and Republican <strong>Kyle Davis <\/strong>(154 votes, 5%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the only other race voted upon by all of Oxford, <strong>Alderman At-Large John Morgan <\/strong>won re-election, receiving 59% of the votes (1,792). Morgan\u2019s opponent, Democrat <strong>Linda Porter Bishop<\/strong> received 40% (1,224 votes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From <strong>Ward II<\/strong>, 917 people voted. Republican incumbent <strong>Mark Huelse <\/strong>won a decisive victory receiving 70% of his constituents\u2019 votes (641), defeating Democrat challenger <strong>Afton Thomas<\/strong>, who received 30% (275 votes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>Ward VI<\/strong>, 539 people voted. <strong>Mayor ProTem Jason Bailey<\/strong> won re-election, defeating Democrat challenger <strong>Miguel Centellas<\/strong>. Bailey received 67% of the vote (359) to Centellas\u2019 33% (180 votes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After <strong>Janice Antonow<\/strong> retired as Alderman of <strong>Ward III<\/strong>, first-time office seekers <strong>Brian Hyneman<\/strong> (Democrat) and <strong>McQueen Miscamble<\/strong> (Republican) registered for election. Attorney Brian Hyneman emerged victorious by securing 321 votes (65%) to veterinarian McQueen Miscamble\u2019s 35% (173 votes). 494 Ward III voters braved the weather to vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ward V<\/strong> lived up to its reputation for low turnout, with only 176 on record. Democrat incumbent <strong>Preston Taylor<\/strong> received 130 of those votes (74%), while Republican businessman <strong>Barney Chadwick<\/strong> brought out 45 votes (26%). Taylor is elected to his sixth term as Alderman for Ward V.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>Wards I<\/strong> and <strong>IV<\/strong>, both <strong>Rick Addy<\/strong> and <strong>Kesha Howell Atkinson <\/strong>ran unopposed and are re-elected. From Ward I, 654 locals voted, while in Ward IV, 215 locals voted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 42 affidavit ballots to be counted, but the tally is not expected to affect the outcome of any race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/TheLocalVoiceLigature-25web.jpg\"><img
