As sporting events started filling up the calendar for several weekends, <strong>Visit Oxford<\/strong> decided to create <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/visitoxfordms.com\/pop-up-oxford\/?fbclid=IwAR0QplJhGEejXeZyZ9TdYtRYFIl8sUbuq9N9xNxoSdZb9on0wCdVQcrcGv0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pop Up Oxford Spring Edition<\/a><\/strong>, which will encompass the sporting events, as well as host smaller events that will highlight music and arts in the community, beginning April 22 and running through May 16. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to host Pop Up Oxford Spring Edition<em> <\/em>and look forward to welcoming back\u00a0some of our visitors that we\u2019ve been missing,\u201d said <strong>Kinney Ferris<\/strong>, Executive Director of Visit Oxford. \u201cBy spreading out these events over four weeks, we want everyone to have the\u00a0 opportunity to enjoy all that Oxford offers in a safe way.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Art Vendors&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Art vendors will \u201cpop up\u201d around the Square noon\u20135 pm Friday, April 23, as well as 10 am\u20135 pm\u00a0Saturdays, April 24, May 1, and May 8. This opportunity was offered to past Double Decker Festival artists at no charge. \u201cBecause we were unable to host Double Decker in 2021, we wanted to give art vendors an opportunity to sell their wares, as well as an opportunity for the\u00a0 community and visitors to get outside and experience a small taste of the annual arts festival,\u201d\u00a0 said Double Decker Arts Festival coordinator <strong>Lee Ann Stubbs<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Tunes-around-town-logo.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Tunes-around-town-logo.jpg?resize=289%2C426\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-110554\" width=\"289\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Tunes-around-town-logo.jpg?resize=695%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 695w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Tunes-around-town-logo.jpg?resize=204%2C300&amp;ssl=1 204w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Tunes-around-town-logo.jpg?w=706&amp;ssl=1 706w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Live Music&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Live music will be heard around the Square with a balcony concert by <strong>Dent May <\/strong>performing at\u00a0<strong>The End of All Music<\/strong> on Friday, April 23<sup> <\/sup>5\u20137 pm; live musicians in the <strong>\u201cBlue Delta Blues Alley\u201d<\/strong> Friday 4\u20138 pm and Saturday 2\u20136 pm, as well as <strong>Tunes Around Town <\/strong>setting up in four locations\u00a0around town Saturday, April 24<sup> <\/sup>5\u20137 pm. Tunes Around Town will continue to \u201cpop up\u201d May 1 and May 8 as the <strong>University of Mississippi <\/strong>will host its 2021 and 2020 Commencements those\u00a0two weekends, respectively, as well as May 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Public Art&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pop Up Oxford Spring Edition<em> <\/em>will also feature the unveiling of two new public works of art. As<strong> International Sculpture Day<\/strong> (April 24) approaches, the City of Oxford will celebrate with the installation of\u00a0 its new art sculpture in the roundabout at the intersection of <strong>Belk Boulevard<\/strong> and <strong>South Lamar<\/strong>,\u00a0entitled <strong><em>Victory Dance<\/em><\/strong> by local sculptor <strong>Earl Dismuke<\/strong>. In addition, a \u201cGreetings from Oxford\u201d\u00a0mural was recently completed. The mural, which was partially funded by a grant from the<strong>\u00a0Mississippi Hills National Heritage Alliance<\/strong>, features iconic scenes from Oxford as well as cultural and historical imagery. A photographer will be on-site Saturday, April 24 to take\u00a0pictures in front of the new \u201cpostcard\u201d mural located behind City Hall in the lower parking lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Double Decker Bus Tours&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The iconic and ever-popular Double Decker bus tours are back this Spring! Occurring on Friday\u00a0afternoons before SEC baseball games, as well as the two commencement weekends, the\u00a0public is invited to hop on a bus to enjoy an hour-long tour with local historians visiting points\u00a0of interest around the city and the University of Mississippi campus, including <strong>William Faulkner\u00a0<\/strong>historic sites. Tickets for adults are $10 and children 12 and under are $5. We hope our locals and visitors alike take this opportunity to get out and\u00a0 about on such a fun Oxford weekend,\u201d said <strong>Pam Swain<\/strong>, Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice\u00a0 President. The race will feature a 10K route to the Square as well as a four-miler route and a kid\u2019s fun run. Participants are encouraged to wear red and blue to celebrate and the race will start at the <strong>Malco Commons Theater<\/strong> to help with social distancing. All finishers will receive an Oxford\u00a0phone booth medal.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sporting Events&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ole Miss Athletics<\/strong> will be busy the last weekend of April with baseball hosting <strong>LSU<\/strong>, softball hosting <strong>Auburn<\/strong> and the annual <strong>Grove Bowl <\/strong>spring football game taking place Saturday\u00a0afternoon, April 24. April 30 through May 2, Ole Miss Baseball will host <strong>South Carolina<\/strong> while softball plays host to\u00a0<strong>University of Central Florida<\/strong>; <strong>Vanderbilt Baseball<\/strong> will travel to Oxford the weekend of May 14\u201316. Oxford\u2019s <strong>mTrade Park<\/strong> will serve as host to the <strong>USSSA Baseball Tournaments<\/strong> four weekends in a row and expect to bring close to 300 teams over the span of the four tournaments.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Events&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saturday, May 15, new, classic, and antique cars will be displayed around the north side of the\u00a0Square as part of the <strong>Destination Oxford Cruise &amp; Car Show<\/strong>; this event is free and family friendly. In its inaugural year, the <strong>Velvet Ditch Gran Fondo<\/strong> bike ride will take place May 15, as\u00a0well. The non-competitive bicycle ride will feature 20, 45, and 70-mile routes for a variety of\u00a0rider levels. There will also be a spring showcase market presented by the <strong>Worth of Worth and\u00a0 Excellence<\/strong> on May 15 at the <strong>Old Armory Pavilion.<\/strong> For more information on all of these events, go to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/visitoxfordms.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">visitoxfordms.com<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Pop Up Oxford&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pop Up Oxford is in its fifth year, but normally takes place in the month of January and encompasses Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrations, men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball, art events, book signings, live music, the Oxford Fiber Arts Festival, and more in a week-long\u00a0 celebration.
