On June 21, 1964, more than twenty Klansmen murdered three civil rights workers. The killings,\u00a0 in what would become known as the \u201cMississippi Burning\u201d case, were among the most brazen\u00a0 acts of violence during the civil rights movement. And even though the killers\u2019 identities,\u00a0including the sheriff\u2019s deputy, were an open secret, no one was charged with murder in the\u00a0 months and years that followed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It took forty-one years before the mastermind was brought to trial and finally convicted for the  three innocent lives he took. If there is one man who helped pave the way for justice, it is  investigative reporter Jerry Mitchell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Race Against Time<\/em>, Mitchell takes readers on the twisting, pulse-racing road that led to the\u00a0 reopening of four of the most infamous killings from the days of the civil rights movement,\u00a0decades after the fact. Reena Evers-Everette is the daughter of civil-rights activists Medgar Evers and Myrlie Evers Williams. Born in Mound Bayou, Miss., Evers-Everette is the executive director of the Medgar  and Myrlie Evers Institute in Jackson, Miss., the same city where he saw her father assassinated  at their home in 1963.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
