The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour<\/strong> wrapped its fall season last week, its first without in-person audiences at Off Square Books<\/strong>. The show, bowing to COVID restrictions, put together each broadcast in-studio with host Jim Dees<\/strong> interviewing authors by phone and using recorded musical performances, including those by the show\u2019s house band, The Yalobushwhackers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thacker producer Alice Pierotti<\/strong> said the show survived thanks to grants and a summer fundraising campaign that raised $25,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re grateful to have been able to put together twelve more radio shows to add some joy and a sense of normalcy to 2020,\u201d Pierotti said. \u201cWe appreciate all the love and support that kept us going.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now the show is adapting its annual holiday fundraiser\u2014normally a well-attended party at Southside Gallery<\/strong>\u2014to an online event, \u201cWish You Were Here.\u201d<\/strong> The show has assembled holiday goodie bags that are now available in exchange for donations at the show\u2019s website, https:\/\/thackermountain.com\/<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The various \u201cGoodies\u201d include local art, custom-made Thacker coasters, T-shirts, caps and tote bags, plus cocktail recipes and an original photograph of Rolling Stones<\/strong>\u2019 front man, Mick Jagger<\/strong>, by noted photographer Dick Waterman<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Memberships can be purchased for $20 for students, $50 for individuals and $75 for family\/partners. Memberships are good for one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, the long-running show has also announced its winter broadcast schedule of programs culled from recent broadcasts. Authors to be featured in the coming weeks include Pulitzer Prize-winner Rick Bragg<\/strong>, acclaimed novelist Way\u00e9tu Moore<\/strong>, \u201cSean of the South\u201d essayist, Sean Dietrich<\/strong>, and Willie Morris Award For Fiction<\/strong> nominee, Margaret Wilkerson Sexton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musical guests will include the Memphis Ukulele Band<\/strong>, Americana songwriter Will Kimbrough<\/strong>, Memphis jazz-soul guitarist Joe Restivo<\/strong> and gospel powerhouse Elizabeth King<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The schedule will be updated frequently on the show\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour<\/em> is broadcast every Thursday at 6 pm on WUMS (92.1 FM)<\/strong> in Oxford<\/strong>. It can be heard every Saturday, online and on the air, at 7 pm on Mississippi Public Broadcasting<\/strong> (90.3 FM<\/strong> in Oxford) and at 9 pm Saturdays on Alabama Public Radio<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the show is heard Fridays online and on the air at 9 am on WYXR Memphis (91.7)<\/strong> and every Saturday at 3 pm (ET) on WUTC (88.1)<\/strong> in Chattanooga, Tennessee<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show will resume new studio shows, without an audience, Thursday, January 21, 2021 with author Nikki Giovanni<\/strong>. Other upcoming 2021 guests include acclaimed essayist Kiese Laymon<\/strong>, novelist Brit Bennett<\/strong>, whose latest book, The Vanishing Half<\/strong><\/em>, has just been optioned by HBO<\/strong>, and Mississippi author, Ralph Eubanks<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
