{"id":102073,"date":"2020-09-15T14:32:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-15T19:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=102073"},"modified":"2022-10-24T11:32:14","modified_gmt":"2022-10-24T16:32:14","slug":"virtual-oxford-science-cafe-to-focus-on-ancient-migration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/virtual-oxford-science-cafe-to-focus-on-ancient-migration\/","title":{"rendered":"Virtual Oxford Science Cafe to Focus on Ancient Migration"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>University of Mississippi professors to discuss &#8216;Tales of Teeth&#8217; during Tuesday event on Zoom<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Ancient migration patterns is the topic for a virtual<strong> Oxford Science Cafe<\/strong> scheduled<strong> Tuesday (Sept. 15)<\/strong> by organizers in the <strong>University of Mississippi Department of Physics and Astronomy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Catedral_de_Corpus_Christi.jpg?resize=267%2C356\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-102075\" width=\"267\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Catedral_de_Corpus_Christi.jpg?w=576&amp;ssl=1 576w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Catedral_de_Corpus_Christi.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 267px) 100vw, 267px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Virtual Oxford Science Cafe program can be seen on Zoom beginning at 6 p.m. <strong>Carolyn Freiwald<\/strong>, UM associate professor of anthropology, and <strong>Lexi O&#8217;Donnell<\/strong>, a visiting assistant professor in the <strong>UM Department of Sociology and Anthropology<\/strong>, will discuss &#8220;Archaeological Science: Our Teeth Tell (Migration) Tales.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Archaeologists reconstruct the past in multiple ways, using novel scientific techniques, historic records, oral traditions and artifacts,&#8221; O&#8217;Donnell said. &#8220;Dr. Freiwald and I will talk about our research on ancient migration in northern New Mexico and today&#8217;s Mexico City 800 years ago using the biological and chemical differences in human teeth.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Questions to be addressed during the 45-minute podcast include: Who were migrants in Tlalnepantla, Mexico?
