{"id":10122,"date":"2013-10-22T10:59:43","date_gmt":"2013-10-22T15:59:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=10122"},"modified":"2013-11-04T13:31:53","modified_gmt":"2013-11-04T18:31:53","slug":"theatre-oxford-presents-the-2013-ten-minute-play-festival-oct-24-25-27-at-the-powerhouse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/theatre-oxford-presents-the-2013-ten-minute-play-festival-oct-24-25-27-at-the-powerhouse\/","title":{"rendered":"Theatre Oxford Presents: The 2013 Ten Minute Play Festival &#8211; Oct. 24, 25, 27 at The Powerhouse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Oxford, MS\u2014<strong>Theatre Oxford<\/strong>\u2019s <strong>2013 Annual Ten Minute Play Festival<\/strong> comes to the <strong>Powerhouse Community Arts Center<\/strong> in Oxford October 24, 25, and 27. \u00a0Every year, Theatre Oxford holds the National 10 Minute Play Contest receiving submissions from playwrights from all over the world. \u00a0The Top Five Finalists from the Contest are presented at the Staged Readings in May, where the Grand Prize Winner is determined. \u00a0The winning play is then fully produced along with four other plays, featuring several written by local playwrights, at the Annual Ten Minute Play Festival in the fall. \u00a0The Festival involves lots of talented local actors and directors and celebrates the playwright and the genre of the ten minute play!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Theatre Oxford is now celebrating 14 years of ten minute plays! \u00a0Local playwrights, Neil White and LW Thomas, founded the National 10 Minute Play Contest in 1998. \u00a0The first Grand Prize Winner was produced in 1999 prior to the production of Neil White\u2019s play \u201cPaper.\u201d \u00a0The Annual Ten Minute Play Festival started in 2000 and featured the Grand Prize Winner from the National Contest and locally written plays. \u00a0The Annual Ten Minute Play Festival was and still is an ideal way to showcase local playwrights and excite local audiences about productions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">This year, the Festival boasts two winning plays\u2014the Grand Prize Winner as well as the Audience Award Winner from the National Contest. \u00a0Congratulations to Mark Cornell of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, winner of the LW Thomas Award, and Adam Joseph Seidel of Chicago, Illinois, who took the audience vote at the Staged Readings in May! \u00a0Other plays being produced at the Festival this year are written by locals, Bill Dabney and Judith Isacoff. \u00a0Two time winner of the National Contest, Austin K.
