Oxford, Mississippi Woman Charged with Felony Child Abuse<\/h2>\n

On October 11, 2018 officers with the Oxford Police Department<\/strong> took a report of a possible child abuse. The investigation led to the arrest Michaela Lay<\/strong>, (19) from Oxford, Mississippi<\/strong> on October 30th<\/sup>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Investigators worked the case with DHS after a complaint was filed stating that Lay exposed the child to a controlled substance. Investigators were able to confirm the report. <\/span><\/p>\n

Lay is the mother of the child, she has been charged with felony child abuse and was given a $10,000 bond by a Lafayette County Justice Court Judge.\u00a0\"The<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Oxford, Mississippi Police Arrest Abbeville Man and Sardis Man for Burglary of Storage Units<\/h1>\n

\"\"<\/a>Officers with the Oxford Police Department<\/strong> were dispatched to Your Extra Closet<\/strong> on US 278 West, Monday October 22, 2018 for several storage unit burglaries. <\/span><\/p>\n

The video footage at the storage units captured two men enter the front gate in a white Dodge Ram truck on Friday, October 19th in the early morning hours. Both men proceeded to enter several storage units and stole multiple items. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The two men were soon identified by investigators as being Joey Williams<\/strong> (26) from Abbeville<\/strong> and Michael Williams<\/strong> (44) from Sardis<\/strong>. \u00a0These two men are cousins. <\/span><\/p>\n

Investigators with the Lafayette County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Lafayette County Metro Narcotics, and Oxford Police Department arrested Joey Williams on October 23rd and Michael Williams on October 29th. Both men were taken before a Lafayette County Justice Court Judge and charged with 2 counts of burglary each. They were given a bond of $25,000 each. <\/span><\/p>\n

Oxford, Mississippi Police Department Announces Halloween Plan<\/span><\/h1>\n

OXFORD, MISS \u2013 Halloween is this Wednesday, October 31st , and the Oxford Police\u00a0Department<\/strong> wants everyone to have fun, but to keep safety in mind while trick-or-treating.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cChildren will be trick-or-treating and walking through neighborhoods so we want\u00a0to emphasize pedestrian safety, as well as driver safety,\u201d Chief Joey East<\/strong> said.\u00a0\u201cPlease drive slowly and be extra vigilant.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

There will be an increased presence of officers on North and South Lamar. Be\u00a0prepared for slower traffic in an effort to keep trick-or-treaters safe. The OPD Safe\u00a0Site will be set up in its regular location on the square in front of Visit Oxford for\u00a0anyone who needs assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Oxford Police Department would recommend the following safety tips for a fun\u00a0and safe trick-or-treating experience:<\/span>
\n\u2022 Wear reflective clothing or attach reflective stripes to costumes<\/span>
\n\u2022 Carry a flashlight<\/span>
\n\u2022 Parents escort your children around neighborhoods and encourage them to<\/span>
\nWALK, not run<\/span>
\n\u2022 Masks can make it hard to see, face paint is a good alternative<\/span>
\n\u2022 Always stay on sidewalks and use crosswalks when crossing the street<\/span>
\n\u2022 If sidewalks are not available stay on the edge of the road and walk facing<\/span>

Oxford Police Seek Suspect<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a>On Saturday, October 20, 2018, at approximately 8:00 PM, officers responded to an assault on Van Buren Avenue near South 5th Street. When officers arrived they spoke with the victim and found that she was grabbed from behind as she walked east on Van Buren Avenue by an unknown white male, approximately 5\u201911\u2019\u2019, wearing a dark colored zip up jacket, orange or red shirt, khaki\u2019s and a light tan Costa ball cap with a light blue Costa symbol.<\/span><\/p>\n

The victim was able to fight the attacker off. She then ran to a nearby residence and called 911. The suspect fled the scene running west on Van Buren Avenue towards the Ford Center parking lot where he got in a newer model white car. The suspect left the parking lot heading north towards West Jackson Avenue. As the suspect vehicle was leaving the parking lot we were able to see several vehicles on video surveillance also driving through the Ford Center lot.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you were in the parking lot between 7:45 and 8:10 PM please contact us, you may have information that can assist. Crimestoppers has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. Tupelo, Mississippi Man Arrested for Third DUI in Oxford<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a>On 10\/20\/2018 officers with the Oxford Police Department<\/strong> conducted a traffic stop for no headlights. Upon investigation the driver, identified as Cornelius McWilliams<\/strong> (34) of Tupelo<\/strong>, was driving under the influence. <\/span><\/p>\n

A later investigation revealed that McWilliams had 2 previous DUI\u2019s. McWilliams was arrested for DUI 3rd and taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center. McWilliam\u2019s bond was set at $10,000.00 by a Justice Court Judge.\u00a0\"The<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Oxford, Mississippi Woman Arrested for Burglary<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a>On 10\/18\/18 officers with the Oxford Police Department took a report of a burglary on S. 18th<\/sup>\u00a0Street. The victim stated that Ebonie Gunn<\/strong> (32) of Oxford<\/strong>, went into her residence and stole property. <\/span><\/p>\n

Gunn was a former renter of that property. Charges were signed on Gunn and a warrant was issued for her arrest. <\/span><\/p>\n

On 10\/22\/2018 Gunn was arrested for burglary and taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center. Gunn\u2019s bond was set at $2,500.00 by a Justice Court Judge.\u00a0\"The<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Memphis Man Arrested for Felony False Pretense<\/h1>\n

On Thursday, October 18, 2018, the Oxford Police Department<\/strong> arrested Calvin Scott Jr (23 of Memphis, TN) on a felony false pretense warrant. On Thursday, September 27, 2018, officers with OPD took a report that the victim had sold a vehicle to Scott on September 16, 2018. Scott paid for the vehicle with a cashier\u2019s check in the amount of $13,806.72. When the victim went to deposit the check he was notified at that the check was returned.
