Oxford Police Department Announces Game Day Plans<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

OXFORD, MISS \u2013 A message from the Oxford Police Department:\u00a0We are looking forward to hosting Vanderbilt fans this weekend along with our\u00a0regular game day visitors. To ensure that everyone has a fun and safe time\u00a0celebrating we will have an increased presence in and around the downtown\u00a0Square Area. Our goal is to be proactive in preventing any disturbances or unsafe\u00a0activities, and as always do not hesitate to contact us should the need arise.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fans may park at FNC Park, Oxford High School, and the Jackson\u00a0Avenue Center and will be transported to campus by shuttle. Shuttles will run\u00a0every 10 minutes depending on road restrictions. Oxford Police want to remind\u00a0everyone to put valuables in the trunk and lock your cars.\u00a0After the game, be cautious of police officers directing traffic and fans\u00a0walking to their cars.<\/span><\/p>\n

And a word on game day traffic regarding West Jackson Avenue:\u00a0After the Game: All traffic traveling Eastbound or Westbound on West Jackson\u00a0Avenue will only be allowed to make right turns at intersections, no one will be\u00a0allowed to make a left turn crossing traffic. This will ensure the most efficient\u00a0exit from the center of the city. Expect delays in traffic as everyone will be\u00a0leaving the campus and the city of Oxford near the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are working with MDOT who will be electronically monitoring the\u00a0Highway 6 and Jackson Ave. intersection. Please be patient as we trust MDOT to\u00a0use their technology for optimum traffic flow. Fixed routes will continue until\u00a0traffic is flowing freely.<\/span><\/p>\n

Celeste Parker Burrell (57 of Oxford) & Kenneth Lawson (60 of Oxford)\u2013 House Burglary & Accessory<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

On 09\/10\/2015 the Oxford Police Department took a report of a burglary that had already occurred. During the investigation we found that Celeste Parker Burrell had taken items from the residence. Burrell was dropped off at the residence by Kenneth Lawson. Burrell and Lawson then took the stolen items and sold them to a jewelry store and pawn shop in Louisiana, the items have been recovered. Both subjects have been arrested. Burrell was charged with House Burglary and was given a $10,000 bond. Lawson was charged with Accessory and given a $5,000 bond.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Saturday, September 12, the Oxford Police Department arrested Ozzie Telford (25 Water Valley, MS.) for Grand Larceny. Telford took over $3,000 from a residence that he was in during the month of March. An affidavit was signed by the victim at that time and a warrant was issued. The warrant was served over the weekend and Telford was given a bond of $5,000. Telford also has a warrant out of Marshall County.<\/span><\/p>\n

On September 11, 2015 Investigators of the Oxford Police Department charged Fernando Alfaro (27) of Oxford, MS with Rape- Assault with Intent to Ravish and Burglary of a Dwelling. Fernando Alfaro was arrested after officers responded to a call on August 28th<\/sup> at South 16th<\/sup> street where a Hispanic male entered the home and attempted to sexually assault a female inside. The victim and witnesses were able to give us information on the suspect as well as his vehicle. The following night officers spotted the car described and found a Hispanic male fitting the description given. Investigators conducted an interview and a DNA sample was taken of Alfaro. The DNA sample was sent to a lab and tested against evidence that was found at the victims home. The sample came back as a match. A warrant was issued and Alfaro was booked and his bond was set at $50,000.00<\/span><\/p>\n

Anthony Peavy – Robbery<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, September 9, the Oxford Police Department arrested Anthony Peavy (22 Batesville, MS.) for Robbery. On August 16th<\/sup> a female was walking home from the square where she was shoved down and had her purse taken. During this event witnesses were able to give us information on the car the suspects were driving and a tag number. Investigators were able to track the vehicle down to Peavy. Peavy was then picked out of a line up from witnesses and victims. Peavy has been arrested and was given a bond of $5,000.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

DeShannon Price \u2013 Possession of a Stolen Firearm<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

On September 1, 2015, Investigators of the Oxford Police Department charged DeShannon Price (19) of Taylor with Possession, Sale, Transfer of Stolen Firearm (97-37-35). Price was stopped near the square, officers conducted a search of the vehicle where narcotics and the firearm was found. The firearm was recovered and given back to the owner. The firearm was actually taken out of a home burglary in the Grand Oaks subdivision this summer, that case is still under investigation. Price was booked and his bond set at $2,500.00<\/span><\/p>\n
