The Local Voice Publisher Newt Rayburn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Newt Rayburn<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0Publisher<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0The Local Voice<\/em>, which he founded in 2006. Previously, Newt was Editor of\u00a0Profane Existence<\/em>\u00a0in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Art Director for Ole Miss’\u00a0Living Blues<\/em>\u00a0magazine, as well as\u00a0The Oxford American<\/em>\u00a0magazine, where he won a National Magazine Award in 1999 for “Best Single Issue” for his Southern Music Issue, which he conceived and started in 1995. Newt was also the Publisher of the DIY punk fanzine Assault With Intent to Free<\/em> in the late 80’s and early 1990’s.<\/span><\/p>\n

Newt is perhaps best known as the \u00a0Bass Guitarist, Singer, and Songwriter in the Oxford, Mississippi RocknRoll band\u00a0The Cooters<\/strong>, which he has toured and recorded many records with over the last two decades, but he also plays in the Country\/Southern Rock band\u00a0Hawgwash<\/strong>. Newt is a Photographer, Writer, and Civil War Enthusiast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nature Humphries<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0Editor-in-Chief<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0The Local Voice<\/em>. Nature is originally from Vicksburg, Mississippi, but moved to Oxford in 2004 after travelling around the world in the Navy. Nature graduated from Ole Miss in 2007 with a degree in English and Modern Languages.<\/span><\/p>\n
