Ole Miss Golf’s Braden Thornberry Brings Home National Championship

Braden Thornberry, Ole Miss Sophomore, shot 1-under in the final round at the NCAA Arnold Palmer Individual National Championship at Rich Farms Harvest Golf Club on Monday, May 29, netting him the Individual National Championship. His four round total put him at 11-under with a four shot lead over ArkansasMason Overstreet in second place.

“It means a lot to be the champion,” Thornberry said. “It was a really special week. Really just from the start, got off to a great start, 6-under through the first 12 of the week, that got me started off on the right foot. The lead kept kind of creeping up. I tried to just stay in position until today and play a good round, and I was right there.”

Thornberry’s national titles is the first ever at Ole Miss. Previous best for the school was Darren Cole’s 1985 fifth-place finish.

“I think it validates everything that we’ve said since Coach [Kyle] Ellis and I got the job a few years back,” said Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy. “All I heard was you couldn’t win a national championship at Ole Miss, and we’re going to go to this other school because we want to win national championships and we want to get on the Tour. He’s proven you can do that here. The Local Voice Ligature
