Georgia Native Musician Kaleb Garrett to Appear on Thacker Mountain Radio Hour March 5

Growing up in north Georgia, Kaleb Garrett picked up his grandfather’s guitar at the age of 14 and began to understand the local, acoustic style of music that is so familiar with that part of the country.

The now 26-year-old native of Hiawassee, Georgia, maintains strong ties to home. “Living in the mountains definitely pushed me towards a more classic approach to songs because of the local musical dialect,” Garrett said.

As a songwriter and music maker, he embraced the musical influences of his youth.

“Part of that influence definitely was my family’s choice of music around the house, which ranged from The Beatles, Bill Monroe, Allman Brothers to Fleetwood Mac, leading to an eclectic idea of what music can be,” Garrett said. “My music feels like a fusion of folk, blues, and Southern sensibilities.”

Spending the past few years on the road throughout the South, playing night clubs, bars and opening for Three Dog Night, Little River Band, Hank Williams Jr., and Diamond Rio, to name a few, Garrett made his way to Nashville, catching the attention of acclaimed Music Row producer, Larry Rogers, an Ole Miss alumnus.

Combining the experience of Rogers with the musical talents of Garrett, the two have produced an EP reflecting that eclectic fusion of Southern sensibilities and making it a major part of Garrett’s sound.

In Nashville, Garrett is also co-writing with Songwriters Hall of Fame member and former Ole Miss quarterback Jim Weatherly.

Garrett will be a part of the March 5 lineup on Thacker Mountain Radio Hour in Oxford.
