Oxford, Miss. – April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Next week, April 6–10, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is promoting a campaign for the awareness of distracted driving.

According to distracteddriveraccidents.com, every year, about 421,000 people are injured in crashes that have involved a distracted driver.

Over 2.5 million people in the United States are involved in road accidents each year. Of these, 1.6 million have a cell phone involved in them. That is 64% of all road accidents in the United States.

Distracted driving is not only texting and driving but it ranges from eating to putting makeup on to blaring loud music with your friends. It takes an average of three-seconds after a driver’s mind is taken off the road for any road accident to occur. Three-seconds is the equivalent of turning your ignition when starting your car. The Local Voice Ligature
