The City Grocery Restaurant Group proudly announces its newest venture, Snackbar. Intended to evoke an atmosphere of days gone by when folks met for a cocktail and conversation, owner and chef John Currence hopes Snackbar becomes a spot to weather the storms and celebrate the good times.

"We hope that this place will offer a surprise for visitors and locals both.  I hated to see L&M fold up shop and it is our intention to try to bring a little of that spirit back."

Snackbar is home to Oxford's only raw bar, featuring Currence's favorite bivalve-- the Apalachacola Bay Oyster as well as a number of oysters out of the Northeast and Northwest.  The rest of the menu illustrates his love of the French brasserie fare and the foods of the American South.

"This place is going to be really fun," says Currence. "I can't wait to see what people think. It should turn out extremely nice looking without an ounce of stuffiness."

Snackbar is is designed to evoke the feeling of an English/Irish pub with lots of communal seating and a setup that encourages interaction among guests.

Vishwesh Bhatt, who has been with Currence's restaurants (City Grocery, Boure, Big Bad Breakfast) on and off for over a decade is at the helm in the kitchen at Snackbar.

"Vish has become part and parcel City Grocery food philosophy," says Currence. "He has been overseeing all aspects of the running of the City Grocery kitchen really since Hurricane Katrina hit and I started doing recovery work. His handling of everything at home gave me the ability to go and do what I need to do there and then when I came back to go to work on Big Bad Breakfast. I can't wait to see what he does with Snackbar."

Drew Stevens, is running the front of the house. "He is full of ideas and energy."

An extensive glass wine program is in the works with an emphasis on high end spirits and imported beers.

Snackbar is now accepting reservations for the 2009 football season. Call 662-236-6363 to make your reservations.

Come join us for Happy Hour Monday through Friday. Snackbar Happy Hour will feature Apalachicola Bay oysters paired with various wines.
