“Gullible’s Travels: A Letter of Gratitude”

Greetings friend. Sparing the details of an on-going investigation, let’s just title the recent chapter of my life, ‘Gullible’s Travels: Parrish Meets a Crook.’

I’ve been in this world too long to claim naiveté. Truth is, I was simply vulnerable and taken (for no small sum of cash) by a seasoned con man and lucky burglar – a hard thing to admit, even harder to swallow. But facts are facts.

In my moment of crisis, however, there are those who went above and beyond normal friendship or even duty in order to help me, and I’d like to use this space to express my praise, my sincere gratitude.

First is Cobra Security, owned and operated by father and daughter, Mr. Wayne and Ms. Lisa Mills — two of the finest people walking. Their attention to my plight has been tireless, their advice and understanding invaluable. They helped me track and trap a criminal, and surely these efforts go way beyond the call of any average security company — but these two are far from average. They are my friends, and should be your first call if ever in need of security for your business (or person). They will not let you down.

Equally heroic in my eyes, is the Oxford Police Department — most notably Captain Kevin Stark, Officer John Diaz, and Detective Paul Garner. These men (as well as the many officers whose names I will never know) have shown the courtesy and tireless dedication you hope for if ever in need of law enforcement.

After realizing I had a potential problem on my hands — one I knew would get worse before better — Captain Stark was my first contact. He invited me into his office and spoke with me on a private and personal level, offering advice I sincerely needed. He genuinely cared about my troubles, and offered his (and the department’s) services without hesitation. For that, I am forever grateful.

When the culprit was finally spotted, Captain Stark (who was off duty) left his home immediately, rushed to town, and led his officers in making an arrest. Again, above and beyond…

Officer Diaz and Detective Garner showed great tenacity in the investigation and follow-up, keeping me abreast at every turn. Both have worked long hours collecting evidence and following leads. Bottom line, they took me (and the case) very seriously. These are two guys you definitely want on your side, and I can’t thank them enough.

Last but not least, are my friends and staff, who injected their own methods of investigation. Lawrence (the good karma guy), Cade and Calvin — damn fine job fellas. Perhaps you all should consider new lines of work… And Li’l Bit (aka, The Enforcer), I like your style, friend… maybe one day we’ll implement your plans on the crooked bastard.

Too often, we only hear negative stories about law enforcement and law officials. We all hate it when we get a speeding or parking ticket, and we curse the officer as we drive away. But their jobs go beyond these small things, and I for one appreciate what they do.

I sincerely hope that Mayor Howorth, the Board of Aldermen, and Oxford’s good citizens take note of this report. As a resident and business owner, I am humbled by the help given to me in my time of need. Oxford is lucky to have such fine people looking out. Once in a while, it’s good we tell them.

Thanks to all concerned, and thanks for reading.
